Find out which careers will be in demand in the twenty-first century and which types of education and training will help you prepare for specific careers. Learn about print, audiovisual and internet resources for learning about careers and employment opportunities.

Identifying your values can be helpful in making a career decision. During this workshop you will participate in activities to help clarify your values when choosing your career.
Going back to School - What is involved?
This workshop discusses the many concerns of adults when they begin or return to higher education. Learn about the many resources for adult learners such as prior learning assessment, the possibility of earning college credit for experience gained outside a formal classroom etc.
Improving Career and Study Skills
Acquire resources for resume writing, job interviewing and professional networking (interviewing for information). This workshop discusses learning styles and effective study skills.
Making Career decisions
Complete your career profile based on career components explored in workshops. This workshop will help you identify goals and strategies to meet career objectives as you begin to develop and implement a career plan.
Workshops on Developmental Education And Study Skill Development For International Students
All Academic Study Skills and developmental education workshops and services are based on a problem-solving approach to learning. Our Skills Strategist and trainer will work with you to identify the critical skills your international student population needs to work on, and help you identify the tools you need to improve them.
The following are brief descriptions of the currently offered workshops:
Time Management
Effective time management is one of the keys to success in college / university. This workshop presents a systematic approach to a number of time management issues, including short-term and long-term scheduling, controlling workload, and juggling schoolwork, outside work and leisure activities. The workshop also addresses problems with motivation and procrastination.
Improving Reading Effectiveness
This workshop will help international students improve their understanding and retention of course material from texts and research sources. Students will work on strategies for analyzing written material and will discuss more effective note-taking methods. Some reading material will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring their course texts for hands-on practice sessions.
Preparing for Exams
These workshops are offered in two versions, one designed primarily for international students in the Sciences and Social Sciences, the other for students in the Arts and Humanities. Both versions cover effective study techniques and strategies for success in the examination itself. The Sciences and Social Sciences workshops focus on understanding the problems presented by multiple-choice exams, while the Arts and Humanities sessions deal primarily with essay exams.
Understanding and Improving Memory Skills
The aim of this workshop is to help students develop better retention of both course readings and lecture content through a greater understanding of how their memories work. By means of a variety of visual and abstract thinking exercises, students will be able to identify the mnemonic or visual techniques that best match their study habits.
Improving Lecture-Listening and Note-Taking
This workshop presents a variety of techniques and suggestions that can help you learn more from lectures. Topics include improving your powers of listening and concentration, ways of identifying the key ideas and other important components of a
lecture, and making an accurate and genuinely useful summary.
